In the middle of the year 1998, facing the need to support the processes of conservation of the 'Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta", a group of leaders of the communities, led by Mr. Luis Torres (farmer of "La Libertad" in the Municipality of Pueblobello), decided to look for support to manage to obtain the international certification as producers of biological coffee and of Fair Trade.

This represented for them the possibility that the coffee production would generate additional income to the rural and indigenous farmers, simultaneously allowing them to continue with their traditional methods of production, which not only are totally respectful with the environment, but are in perfect harmony with it, being the natural environment their major wealth.
