The Ockenden Venture

The Ockenden Venture was born on 1984 at the North-east of Pakistan, as an organization aiming to generate work for the afgan refugees by donations to the High comisionate on the ONU for refugees.

 

This artisan center works with different textile products. More than 3.000 people are being employed, 70% of them are women. The organization is in charge of selling the products in Pakistan and out, more than 60% of the production being exported to Fair Trade organizations.

 

Ut to 7.000 people work for Ockenden Venture, wich along with their families amount to 50.000 people that live from this organization.

 

During 1986, Ockenden created an organization inside itself that is in charge of building houses for the refugees and for the maintaing of the communities. The children of men killed during the Afganistan war receive education and are professionally formed for various jobs and women work on the textile production, to cover for the internal necessities and to generate income.
