ASASAPNE - Asociación de Agricultores ‘El Esfuerzo’ de San Pedro Necta, Huehuetenango

Huehuetenango is one of the biggest departments of Republic of Guatemala, within an extension of 7,403 km2, established in the Western part of the country and located in the foot of the Cuchumatanes mountains, limiting with Mexico in the Northern part. The inhabitants of Huehuetenango are descendants of the Mayas, native villages such as the Mam, Akatecas and Jacaltecas. Asasapne (Asociación de Agricultores El Esfuerzo de San Pedro Necta, Huehuetenango) is the producers association which started the differentiation strategy. The organization consists of 10 primary organizations, all of them near to the community of San Pedro Necta

 

The organization was established in 1980 and currently, it is provided with 230 producers and its annual production is 21 coffee containers. The coffee is produced in a range of 1,520 - 1,750 m of altitude. The organization is certified as Fair Trade since 2000 and also 70 of its members own the organic certification (around 10% of the production).
